Today I commemorate the “Palmer Raids.”  On this date in 1919 some 3,000 anarchists were imprisoned on Ellis Island.

I have been keeping a daily reading response journal for a long time, and over the weekend I made the last entry in a thick blank journal I began on the 3rd of January, 2010.  Over time the response journal has grown in personal importance, and when I leave one journal and begin another, I take a moment to acknowledge that the potential for learning from blank pages is great.  The writing is not meant to be read by anyone else, and has become the most important literary part of the day.
