The Squaw Valley writers workshops are annual events organized by the “Community of Writers at Squaw Valley.” Novelist Oakley Hall and writer Blair Fuller founded the community more than four decades ago, and the conferences are held each summer in Olympic Valley, California. Workshops are convened in fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and screenwriting, and I visited the recent poetry workshop and recorded several poets reading their work aloud. I also spoke with one of the community’s long-time staff participants, Andrew Tonkovich. Here is that interview along with three spoken-word poems from poets Christina Hutchins, Heather Dobbins, and Monica Minott. This mix of music, conversation and poetry was produced for KVMR radio. See the PRX listing for complete music credits and permissions.
